Poland

PL · PLN @ 0.2734/USD

Poland runs Central Europe's deepest domestic instant-payments stack. BLIK crossed 3bn transactions in 2025 with ~21m users and now spans Slovakia, Romania and a Bizum euro-link; Express Elixir cleared 636m instant transfers at KIR. The złoty remains free-floating and euro adoption is off the political agenda, leaving Poland the largest non-euro EU economy with a fully separate payments stack — and a domestic scheme that no other CEE country has matched.

Strategic openings

BLIK cross-border via Bizum and Tatra Banka

high

BLIK cross-border via Bizum and Tatra Banka — BLIK is now testing Polish-user euro payments at Slovak online merchants (PayU + Tatra Banka), and a bilateral Bizum–BLIK channel with Spain is in pilot. The CEE-to-Iberia retail-A2A corridor is the first real one outside Wero.

PLN stablecoin and tokenisation

medium

PLN stablecoin and tokenisation — NBP has signalled willingness to authorise domestic PLN-denominated e-money tokens under MiCA. KNF licensed the first Polish CASPs in Q1 2026; the tokenised-deposit thesis builds on PKO BP and mBank corporate appetite.

Ukraine corridor infrastructure

high

Ukraine corridor infrastructure — Poland hosts ~1.1m Ukrainian war-displaced residents and was the largest sender to Ukraine in 2024 with US$3.3bn (35% of total inflows). NBP-supported PLN-UAH bilateral settlement plus Polish-bank Ukrainian onboarding is the template for CEE reconstruction-era payments.
